Jeep’s new 2020 Gladiator Mojave isn’t messing around.
Announced at the Chicago Auto Show, the vehicle bears the Desert Rated stamp of approval, which means it’s more than happy to traverse desert and sandy environments.
Specifically, the rating means the truck is, “the ultimate in high-speed off-road capability and performance while traversing gruelling desert and sand environments”.
The badge is given to motors that pass tests in five categories: ride control and stability, traction, ground clearance, manoeuvrability and desert prowess.
Those tests are conducted in – you guessed it – the Mojave Desert, so it should come as no surprise while Jeep decided to give the Gladiator its special designation.
To accomplish this level of dune capability, the Gladiator was given upgrades to the suspension, and specially-tuned bypass shocks designed to handle sand. There are also hydraulic front bumpers, a reinforced frame and stronger axles – all to keep its passengers safe in rough terrain.
As per the standard Gladiator, you get 33-inch all-terrain tires and the brand’s so-called ‘aggressive’ front seats. There’s a 3.6-litre V6 engine under the hood that can handle 285-horsepower, with a six-speed transmission.
The 2020 Gladiator is due to arrive in showrooms during the April 2020.
