The Fairlady Z432R sold for a whopping US$805,000

When you think high-end classic cars – the brand Nissan doesn’t usually come to mind.

However, that’s all about to change. Among the classic Ferraris and Lamborghinis at the annual BH Auction in Tokyo, this weekend sat a lone Nissan Fairlady Z432R – and it sold for US$805,000.

That makes it not just the most expensive Nissan ever sold, but one of the most expensive Japanese cars ever.

Of course, this is no regular Nissan. Built-in the 1970s, it is one of the rarest cars on the planet. Only 30-50 were ever produced and sold overseas under the Datsun banner.

The Fairlady was an upgraded Nissan Z240 (which is already quite rare, only 420 were ever made) and built for the track. Each car is lighter than the standard model, comes with a fiberglass hood and a bigger fuel tank.

The particular model in question comes with an electric orange paint job and dual exhausts – oh, and it’s in top-notch condition. The fact that it has been so well maintained is a big reason why the car sold for so much.
