Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors will bring the Ora R1 – the world’s cheapest electric car – to India over the next few months.
The four-door Ora R1 has a 350-kilometer range and a 35kWh battery.
While there are no concrete prices on how much the R1 will cost, back in its native China Great Wall Motors sells the Ora R1 from 69,800 RMB (which is around US$8,600 or 31,500 AED) a pop.
That makes it less than India’s current cheap electric vehicle lineup, the Mahindra eVerito and the Tata Tigor EV.

The Ora R1 can almost drive as far as a Standard Range Plus Tesla Model 3 and comes with a top speed of 100 kilometres per hour. It also is packed full of artificial intelligence, including – apparently, so take this with a grain of sodium – the ability to wake the entire car up by simply saying, “Hello, Ora”.
Ora stands for ‘open, reliable and alternative’ and is aimed at a young city dweller. The car is modular, and Great Wall Motors has built it on a new platform called ‘ME’. The system lets you swap in and out components, such as the motor, battery and electronic controls. The construction also enables it to be both lightweight and longer-lasting.
