Following calls to make silent electric vehicles more noticeable

Telsa is set to add custom vehicle noises and horn sounds to its line-up of cars.

Following a new EU and US ruling, super quiet electric vehicles, such as Teslas, will have to feature a noise-emitting device to make them more noticeable for pedestrians. Elon Musk, the mad genius behind Tesla, took this ruling as an opportunity to play yet another practical joke. Cars with fart noises.

Though the benefits of Telsas and other electric vehicles are widely known, the possible dangers on their inherent silence are not. Since Teslas are so quiet, it can be hard for pedestrians to know when one is approaching, this is especially dangerous during low visibility or for the visually impaired.

Teslas have electric batteries which make them incredibly quiet. Musk and Tesla are being forced to add an artificial noise device, which Musk has seen as an opportunity to have some fun. In a recent tweet, Musk revealed that customised horn and movement sounds will be coming to his cars in the near future.

The sounds he’s teased include fart noises, goat screams, and the sound of coconuts bonking together, a reference to Monty Python. He also teased that these noises were just the tip of the proverbial ice berg, and also there’s possibility for owners to introduce their own sounds for the horn and movement.

Tesla recently unveiled its ‘Software Version 10.0’ update, aimed at “making time spent in your car more fun”. The introduced features include ‘Car-aoke’, a feature to do karaoke via the Tesla’s massive in-car screen, as well as an opportunity to play video games on the screen.
