If you’re buying a car with the intention of getting respect on the road and overshadowing every car in your path, few people would have buyer’s remorse with a Mercedes G-Wagon. If however that car just isn’t quite big enough, why not head to Abu Dhabi to see the even bigger tank-like version?
The G63 AMG 6×6 dubbed by its creators as ‘the most spectacular cross-country vehicle of all time’, takes the standard G-Wagon and dials it up to 11. The car measures 2.3 metres (m) tall, 2.1 m wide, and a whopping 5.87 m long, dwarfing the already enormous four-wheeled variant.
The car has an AMG-built 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V-8, powering the six wheels and providing 536 brake horsepower (bhp). The car can hit 60 miles per hour (mph) in just under eight seconds and has a top speed of 100 mph (160 kmh). That may sound sluggish, but remember this car weighs 3,775 kilograms (kg) or just over four tonnes, or similar to that of an elephant.
Using the original G63 as a base, this six-wheeled version was developed for the Australian Army back in 2007, later being commercialised in 2013 and discontinued in 2015. With such a short production run, it is one of Mercedes’ rarest models.
The 37-inch wheels can all be remotely and individually inflated and deflated with a tire control system you can operate at the push of a button. This allows for a more customised driving experience across the most demanding of terrains.
This particular model, once owned by a resident in Kuwait, now resides right here in the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi. RM Sotheby’s assures it’s one of the most pristine examples to date, with a number of accessories still in original packaging.
Not only is the car a behemoth on the road, it is uncompromisingly luxurious inside also, featuring a two-tone black and tan leather cabin, with all the seats being electronically adjustable, heated and ventilated. There are also TV screens in the back.
With only one owner beforehand, the Kuwait resident, the car has a mere 139 miles (225 km) clocked. RM Sotheby’s has not released a price estimation at this time, but the car in the past as retailed for around US $511,000.
