In a new study conducted by Nissan to celebrate personalisation options on its all-new Micra hatchback; 5,000 interviews were conducted and the results were mind-blowing.
If you are one of the people who think that white is a perfectly unassuming colour, and the right one for your motor – you could be completely wrong.
Through the help of acclaimed colour psychologist Karen Haller, Nissan’s results have suggested that almost 86 percent of all drivers choose a wrong-coloured car. Two-thirds of those 86 percent are white, black or grey car-owners.
The research found that even though there are now more vibrant exterior colours and personalisation options than ever before, car buyers are still too conservative when it comes to picking paint. Drivers would rather go for the much safer option.
Karen commented: “Social factors come into play with colour choice. For example, in times of economic uncertainty, it’s common for people to play it safe and pick a car with a neutral palette – such as black, white orgrey. So I’m not surprised that two-thirds of motorists are driving more conservative shades.
“Often colour choices are based around aspirations, and black is often seen as aspirational, associated with high-end technologies and innovative brands. It may be that far from playing it safe, they are choosing what they perceive as the finer things in life”, she added.
Nissan created Facebook Chatbot, a way to help consumers find the perfect colour match for them. It determines the user’s personality and presents the perfect Micra colour match for them in just two minutes.
