As next level as cars get

If you’re going to unveil a hypercar in the Middle East, then timing it during Formula One’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix would be a good starting point. That’s exactly what Aston Martin has done. The race weekend saw all drama in spades with Nico Rosberg pipping Lewis Hamilton to the driver’s championship, but it also saw the introduction of the showstopping AM-RB 001.

Code named, ‘Nebula’ the new two-seater was presented by Aston Martin CEO Dr. Andy Palmer and Red Bull Racing’s wunderkid Max Verstappen. The hypercar aims to be like nothing seen on the road before. That’s right, it’s a road car…

Put plainly, the AM-RB 001 is the closest thing to an F1 track car that is actually allowed on the road. Red Bull Racing’s famed chief technical officer Adrian Newey and Aston Martin chief creative officer Marek Reichman worked closely to combine F1 technology with a signature Aston Martin design.

The result is a AM-RB 001 made completely bespoke with a naturally aspirated V12 engine that will include a Formula 1 style hybrid system. It will have a 1:1 horsepower to weight ratio – which means that at a weight of around 1,000 kilos, you are looking at a seriously quick vehicle.

Design-wise, the AM-RB 001 is a well-balanced mix of daring Red Bull design, which is primarily focussed on improving performance as well as the unmistakable Aston Martin look. The vehicle doesn’t only drive like no other car but it also doesn’t look like anything we’ve seen before, it has a seriously futuristic vibe. Aston Martin’s chief creative officer described the motivation behind the design was to “have something that wasn’t radical but which was pure, simple, and dramatic.”

Deliveries on the car will begin in 2019, with 150 road cars available along with all remaining prototypes. A track only AM-RB 001 is also in development with 25 versions to become available. More information is available here
