Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote just ended, and as per usual Apple is set to “transform your devices”.

Here’s the lowdown on everything you need to know.

Apple Intelligence: Your New Digital Brain

Apple has dived into AI with Apple Intelligence (AI, get it?) that aims to supercharge your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This new feature will automagically generate images, summarize texts, and more, all while keeping your data secure. Most requests will be handled on device, while if what you’re asking requires a beefy processor in the cloud, all the data is stored privately and securely. It will be available for free on the iPhone 15 Pro and devices with M1 chips or later, when it launches sometime in September.

Siri’s Big AI Makeover

Siri is leveling up thanks to AI. Now, a glowing light on your device will indicate Siri’s activity. With improved app control, Siri can fetch info from emails or find specific photos, thanks to advanced language models. Say hello to a smarter, more intuitive Siri!

ChatGPT Teams Up with Siri

Siri will now integrate with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. When Siri determines that ChatGPT is better suited to handle a query, it will request your permission to send the request. This integration brings the power of ChatGPT to Siri, no OpenAI account required.

AI-Powered Features Across Apple Apps

iOS 18 is packed with yet more AI goodies. Mail will now summarize emails and craft responses for you. Messages introduces Genmoji for custom emojis, and Image Playground lets you create images from text prompts. The Photos app gets smarter with natural language searches and background object removal. Notes and Phone apps will feature AI-driven transcriptions and summaries.

Customize Your iPhone Like Never Before

iOS 18 isn’t just about AI – it’s also about personalization. The new Control Center is more customizable, and you can freely place app icons on your homescreen. Plus, you can lock specific apps to keep them private when sharing your phone. The update also includes a Photos app redesign and a Game Mode for optimized gameplay on the go.

iPadOS 18: Finally, a Calculator!

Yes, you read that right! The iPad is finally getting a Calculator app, complete with Apple Pencil support. The new Math Notes feature lets you write equations that the app will solve. Smart Script will use machine learning to improve your handwriting and spell-check notes.
