Apple Music now has 100 million songs in its catalogue; with the announcement going out on the iPod’s birthday.
The original iPod (RIP) launched in 2001, packing a 2-inch LCD display and 5GB of storage – which was enough for you to put 1,000 songs in your pocket (at the time this was revolutionary).
Fast forward 21 years, and Apple now has the capacity to put 100 million songs in your pocket (albeit, of the streaming variety).
That puts it at the top spot of the streaming services:
- Amazon Music Unlimited: 90 million
- Tidal: 90 million
- Spotify: 80 million
According to Apple, it couldn’t have done it without the 20,000 singers, songwriters and producers that add songs to the platform on a daily basis.
“One hundred million songs is evidence that there is a more democratic space where anyone, even a new musician making music from their bedroom, can have a hit.”
In celebration the company unveiled ‘Apple Music Today’ which features a slew of songs that dig into Apple’s history.
Apple Music is available across 167 countries including the Middle East.
