Apple teams up with wellness company Technogym launch GymKit in the region

Gym-goers in the UAE (and the wider region) can now take advantage of Apple‘s GymKit technology – which is baked into the Apple Watch.

The technology lets fitness fans on select equipment tap their Apple Watch to a compatible machine for a seamless transfer of workout statistics.

GymKit-enabled equipment – such as that from Technogym (including treadmills, ellipticals, indoor bikes and stair steppers) – now let Apple Watch owners easily collect data during their workout; things like heart rate, calories burned, distance, speed and incline will all sync directly with the wrist-mounted device.

That means no more fussing with USB keys or logging in to the cloud. Users need only tap their watch to the side of a machine and GymKit will handle the rest.

Technogym is rolling out its compatible equipment currently, and has the ability to retro-fit many of its more modern machines to work with Apple’s fitness technology. Down the line, you can expect to see the technology trickling down to other gyms and fitness brands, including Life Fitness.

“At Technogym we are committed to promoting wellness filled lifestyles and to engaging more and more people in regular physical exercise thanks to our connected fitness equipment and unique ecosystem,” says Nerio Alessandri, founder and CEO of Technogym.

“We are really proud to introduce to the fitness and wellness industry this integrated and innovative experience with Apple Watch and are excited to bring this to exercisers around the world.”
