The World Championships were watched by millions of viewers

Riot Games has revealed that 45.9 million people tuned in to its League of Legends 2020 World Championships Final, from two months ago. 

The finals were held in Shanghai, and had a live audience of 6,000 people but an online audience of almost 46 million. 

Riot Games delivered the data to Stream Hatchet, to further crunch the numbers. Hachet reported that an average minute audience of concurrent vieweres was between 23 and 46 million. 

The report said that there were more than 1 billion hours of competition watched during the torurnament. 

“What the esports team at Riot Games achieved this year continues to set the standard for cultivating massive audiences in esports and entertainment,” mentioned Stream Hatchet’s CEO Eduard Montserrat in a statement. “This year, for example, esports watch time on Western streaming platforms increased by 10 percent, with leagues and tournaments organized by the Riot Esports team accounting for one-third of the watch time.”

The tournament makes it one of the most-watched sporting events in the world.
