The Mac and PC version of Football Manager 2020 will be free to play until April 1 https://store.steampowered.com/app/1100600/Football_Manager_2020/via Steam.
While game developer SEGA’s Sports Studio has not said it is extending free play directly because of the coronavirus, it has acknowledged that many people have “a little more time on [their] hands than normal just now”.
The company said that Football Manager 2020 would be a great way “to fill those free hours”.
Those wanting to take advantage of the offer need to download the game, create an account and save the game to your computer or as a Steam Cloud backup (this bit is important once the free to play time is up).
That will let you continue your journey to take Blackburn Rovers F.C. to the Premier League (or any other virtual football club/league) by purchasing a full copy of the game at a discounted price.
The videogames industry is one of a handful that has done well over the coronavirus epidemic; according to US media firm Verizon online gameplay has increased more than 75 per cent since the beginning of February.
As people settle into self-isolation, it has also led to a panic-buying spike on console purchases – which in the case of Nintendo’s Switch, has led to mass worldwide shortages.
