We will see the next-gen console in early February

Sony could show off the new PlayStation 5 in a few days or just weeks, according to a leading game manufacturer.

New claims concerning the PS5 launch date imply the next-gen console will be released before or on February 13. However, its precise reveal and launch dates remain a closely guarded secret.

God of War games developer David Scott Jaffe said, in a flurry of Tweets, that “The PS5 reveal is less than 4 weeks off.”

“Sony understands hardcore gamers are hanging on every bit of information and understand that [Microsoft] dominates the conversation at the moment.” He later admitted that “what I want to say is this is the worst-kept secret in gaming”.

His tweet was posted on January 16, which means the big reveal could be no more than 28 days off. It’s claimed that the launch will take place at the Sony Music Hall, on February 5.

Last week, an anonymous 4chan user posted a comprehensive and convincing post with information about the console — along with a blurry photo of the gadget.

According to the unnamed “leaker”, the console will be released on February 5, 2020, and will be priced US$500.

The big buzz words for the new console include little to no loading times, blazing-fast downloads and games that look like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Gamers are also excited for the rumoured ‘unlimited backward compatibility’ which would let you play any game in Sony’s portfolio on the device.

Pre-orders are tipped as likely live on the same day as the launch event, but the real on-sale date is tipped for October 2020.
