Battle Royale videogame Fortnite is teaming up with TikTok for a competition that will give social media users their very own in-game dance emote.
The winner will have their moves turned into character actions that will appear within both mobile, console and PC versions of the game.
In addition, the winners will also get a load of in-game currency (around US$250 worth) and Fortnite merch.
To participate, you need to record yourself dancing around to one of 12 sample backing tracks (to avoid copyright issues). Each dance needs to last 15-seconds or less and uploaded to TikTok.
The contest ends on January 24, 2020.
Fortnite has previously come under the ire of musicians and actors, who have had their actions or dance moves appropriated by the video game without consent, or revenue-sharing deals in place. This content will take steps to address that, as well as serve as Fortnite effectively creating their own content.
The winning moves will go up on the Fortnite store. However – the winning entry will not get a revenue cut (Fortnite already shares up to 5% revenue from the in-game store with select creators, but this isn’t a part of that deal, apparently).
Instead, the competition winner will receive a premium Fortnite ‘merch’ pack, including hoodies, Jazware glider drones, a Nerf gun, a Funky figurine and a wireless speaker.
TikTok and Fortnite have already signed up some of their biggest creators to highlight the competition.
