Battle Royale shooter Apex Legends has announced its first tournament series that will kick off in January 2020.
The prize? A cool US$3 million.
The series will involve online tournaments, regional challenger events and global Premiere Events that act as feeders to ‘majors’, the last of which will count as the Global Series Championship.
The first online event runs on January 25 and 27 (with registration kicking off on January 11) and a second on February 29 and March 2.
The prize pot isn’t as much as Fortnite’s World Cup, however. Winners of the solo and co-op finals received US$3 million alone each.
By contrast, Apex Legends is awarding US$500,000 in prizes for each of the top three majors, and US$1 million for the Championship Major (of which only the best 60 players in the world will compete).
It has said that its tournament structure will be similar to other esports titles, like Dota 2 and Counter-Strike Global Offensive.
As per Fortnite, the series will take place on PC rather than console participation. All participants need to be 16 at the time of registration.
