Forget wondering your neighbourhood and strapping your phone to your bike, it’s time to Pokémon Go to bed.

  • The Pokémon Company and Niantic are teaming up with Nintendo again to create the sequel to ‘Pokémon Go’

  • ‘Pokémon Go’ raked in almost $1.8 billion since its launch and has around 800 million downloads

  • The sequel, called ‘Pokemon Sleep’ will somehow have you train your pokemon by sleeping

‘Pokémon Go’ was one of the most successful apps of all time, garnering an 800 million downloads at its peak and raking in almost $1.8 billion. Now, The Pokémon Company, Niantic, and Nintendo are teaming up again for the next app – ‘Pokémon Sleep’.

The Pokémon Company recently announced in a press conference that it’s coming back with a sequel. Though instead of walking to train and catch pokémon, it will involve sleeping. At the moment however, there hasn’t been any details about gameplay or mechanics, so it’s unknown right now how exactly this sleep method will work. What is known is that a new piece of hardware called the ‘Pokémon Go Plus +’ will be released for the game, acting as a pedometer and a sleep tracker. The more you sleep, the more pokémon you unlock! We’re wondering how many years of sleep it will take to get a hold of a ‘Snorlax’.

To put into perspective just how crazy the world was over the game, ‘Pokémon Go’ took the entire world by storm, myself included. In fact, I flew all the way to Japan just to catch the Pokémon exclusive to that country. At the app’s peak, there were videos of hordes of flocking to certain areas at once when a rare pokemon was spotted. There were even rumours that the Pokémon ‘Mewtwo’ was available at the top of Mount Everest.

The game isn’t expected to release till 2020 so we’ll have to wait till then to see what impact this game will have on the world. For now though, you can grab a special edition sleeping ‘Snorlax’ on ‘Pokémon Go’ to celebrate this announcement.
