It has been a competitive year for drink slingers around the world, with the ‘hiccup’ of Covid-protocol now a distant memory, the world’s cocktail connoisseurs are back in bigger numbers than ever before. How can we be sure? Well, the annual World’s Best Bars list has just been announced, and the great news for the GCC is that the Dubai-based Mimi Kakushi has retained its spot as the 40th best bar on the planet – the highest ranked bar from the Middle East region.
As per usual, bars are reviewed by a series of drinks experts around the world, with Mimi Kakushi being joined by LPM Dubai as the only other bar from the region in the top 100 at No.76.
Topping the 2024 list is Mexico City’s Handshake Speakeasy – the first time a Mexican bar has been crowned as The World’s Best Bar. This year’s list features bars from 28 cities with 16 new entries spread across Bangkok, Bogotá, Guadalajara, Hong Kong, Lima, Melbourne, Mexico City, Milan, New York, Paris, São Paulo, Singapore, Tokyo.
A regular staple on the Dubai dining scene, Mimi Kakushi, retained its position as No.40 on the list, not only making it the only bar in the UAE (and the wider Middle East) to make the top 50 cut.
According to the 50 Best List, “Dubai does high-concept venues better than most and the Japanese restaurant-bar Mimi Kakushi is no exception.”
“The cocktail menu here takes the form of a collection of records, which you flick through to find a drink and concurrent musical pairing.”
