Dubai’s dining scene has never been hotter, and seemingly half the action of 2023 has taken place at Atlantis The Royal. The city’s latest landmark has singlehandedly been responsible for the debut of celebrity chef Ariana Bundy’s first restaurant and one of only two Dinner by Heston Blumenthal outposts worldwide. But for fans of the diverse flavours found within Peruvian gastronomy, there’s only one address that matters: La Mar Dubai.

Now, La Mar Dubai isn’t actually the first Peruvian restaurant in Dubai—but it is the only one helmed by the man dubbed “the ambassador of Peruvian cuisine”, Gastón Acurio. Between operating over 50 restaurants worldwide and co-founding the Pachacútec Culinary Institute in Peru, he’s widely credited for shaping the country into a bona fide foodie destination.

Closer to home, authenticity reigns supreme at La Mar Dubai, so expect a menu that traverses Peru’s cultural and culinary tapestry by way of artfully plated cebiche, delicate tiraditos, whole fish cooked in a charcoal-fired oven, entrées such as causas, and street food staples like anticuchos. And it’s all washed down with an array of Piscobased beverages that go beyond the sour.

Incidentally, a meal at La Mar Dubai is just about what’s on the plate—even though it has plating down to a fine art. The experience begins with a walk through oxidised copper doors, reminiscent of the ones that guard the many ancient temples across Peru.

It also happens to overlook the famed Skyblaze Fountain, so a dramatic collision of fire and water accompanies those dining on the terrace. Let the sensory journey begin.
