Annoyed that your regular burger isn’t available at your favourite restaurant? How annoyed? Annoyed enough to pull out a gun?
One man in America got so angry that the new Popeyes Chicken Sandwich was sold out, he aimed a gun at employees.
Despite America’s new Popeyes Chicken Sandwich retailing at a mere U.S. $3.99, Forbes has estimated the chicken frenzy to be worth over US$65 million in marketing value.
The Popeyes Chicken Sandwich in the US went on sale on August 19 and promptly sold out nationwide just 15 days later. Popeyes told the Washington Post it was “working tirelessly to bring the new sandwich back to guests as soon as possible”. But for many, soon isn’t soon enough.

One chicken-dependent man in Texas reportedly pulled out a gun on Popeyes employees after hearing the sandwich was still impossible to buy.
Late on a Monday night in Houston Texas the police said, a “Male pulled a gun on employees of restaurant after they ran out of chicken sandwich.”

The employees, all of which would be young and earning minimum wage, told their local TV station that three men, two women and a ‘BABY’ at the drive-through were told the sandwiches were sold out. Upon hearing the apparently crushing news, one of the men got so angry that he threatened staff with a gun, threw a can through the window of the drive-through and then proceeded to try and rush inside the building.
“It was more of an aggravated assault because he was displaying a weapon and threatened employees,” Lt Larry Crowson of the Houston PD told ABC13.
The group left the area in a blue SUV. Police reviewed footage but no charges have been made at the time of writing.
This isn’t the first instance of someone going totally crazy over the sandwich. Recently a man in Tennessee named Craig Barr attempted to sue the restaurant for U.S. $5,000 for false advertising.
The sandwich has also been seen on sites such as eBay and Craigslist reselling for hundreds of dollars.
