There’s a new Japanese restaurant in town that specialises in Kaiseki and Omotenashi cuisine. What’s that? Find out here

There’s a new Japanese restaurant in town (yawn) but stay with us. This is the city’s first Kaiseki concept eatery, which offers a series of dishes designed to be enjoyed over three hours.

The menu was created by executive chef Hisao Ueda, using only ingredients sourced from Japan. Expect all-Japanese sushi and seafood, and – as the name suggests – a generous amount of Wagyu beef.

More interestingly, the restaurant practices the Japanese tradition of Omotenashi – which roughly translates to ‘hospitality’. As such, you won’t find a more authentic Japanese dining experience in the city.

Servers come dressed in lavish kimonos, guests are asked to remove their shoes when entering the restaurant, and sit on pillows on the floor. Service, as you’d expect if you’ve ever visited Japan, is almost without fault. Kohantei features three private dining rooms and an intimate paper-walled dining area with five tables.
