It’s good to have a code. In the world of style, quality, and character, some things never fade. That’s the message behind the partnership between Woodford Reserve and Esquire this Old Fashioned Week (October 1 to November 15).

While much of the world chases scrolls through fleeting trends, both the iconic bourbon brand and the definitive men’s magazine are raising a glass to the enduring value of tradition and a classic code of conduct, via with a rather dapper project.

As Esquire Middle East‘s resident ‘Custodian of cool’, Mr. Shef Codes stars in a short video celebrating the importance of living life to a code. Brought together by an appreciation of the Classics, and the understanding of how to put your personal spin on them, the Dubai-based DJ explains his personal style while making himself an Old Fashioned.

Originating in Paris a decade ago, the annual Woodford Reserve Old Fashioned Week has gone on to become an event spread global with a growing enrolment of both connoisseurs and curious.

Traditionally made with 3 simple ingredients – bourbon, sugar, and bitters – both Woodford Reserve and the Old Fashioned have their roots in Kentucky, as cocktail historians generally agree the cocktail’s name was first used at the Pendennis Club in Louisville. It was popularized by Col. James E. Pepper in 1881, when it was introduced to high society at the Waldorf Astoria New York, and is now the top classic cocktail in the world.
