There was a time when an essential part of being a man meant that you would gather post-work in dark lit rooms chomping on a cohiba and swilling the empty ice around your tumbler, ignoring the world outside the four walls of your smoke-filled cigar lounge. Of course, those days are gone now, as more is expected of today’s modern man… and by ‘more’ we mean stopping by the farmer’s market to buy some kale on the way to yogalates.
But just because we now share our load of the domestic responsibilities and have been indoctrinated into a healthy lifestyle mantra, there is something infinitely comforting about unwinding in well put-together cigar bar. Cue the Diademas Lounge.
Named after the fabled cigar brand (unfortunately no longer in production), the Diademas lounge attempts to recreate that dimly lit, 1920s, vintage cigar setting. While previously one of Dubai’s leading cigar lounges, it has recently undergone a facelift and reopened its doors to casual puffers and seasoned connoisseurs alike.
Situated in Dubai’s H Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road, the leather-sofa clad lounge serves a medley of more than 40 cigar brands. An in-house cigar sommelier is on hand point you in the correct general direction depending on your tastes, the Cuabas, Cohibas or Montecristos, while the hand-crafted Don Padrons remain the most sought after stogies. Now factor in that the bar staff offer a decent range of drinks, and we can see plenty of reason why our journey home from work should allow for a quick pit-stop… after buying the kale, of course.
