Creativity is not an asset the food & beverage industry is in short supply of. Aside from what appears on the plate, victuallers are constantly creating new trends, sub-trends, cuisine types, fusions and everything in between. The latest word to be added to the modern vernacular seems to be ‘gastrodive’, and in Dubai it’s embodied by the newly opened Bridgewater Tavern.

Fitting the definition, this new low-key, JW Marriott Marquis bar is a little rough around the edges, but the kitchen serves up banging gourmet comfort food, including Parmesan truffle fries, firecracker calamari, crispy cod sandwiches and addictive black wasabi shrimp. Rather bizarrely they also have an entire ‘signatures’ section of the menu dedicated to ‘black food’ such as the squid-ink infused black burger (below).

With ice buckets built-in to the tables, fridges stocked with craft brews, and daily happy hour deals from 4pm to 7pm, this gastrodive seems like a decent spot to plunge headfirst into the weekend’s sports coverage.
