The Umaid Bhawan Palace is an important piece of Rajasthan’s heritage and a symbol of new Jodhpur. The palace has always symbolised prosperity in Jodhpur. However the meaning behind the prestigious building is slightly more profound.
There was a reason to why it took such a long time to build, despite it being quite large, it provided several employment opportunities to those who were in need. During the 1920’s Jodhpur was undergoing severe famine and draught. The palace provided jobs to the affected farmers in the area.
The palace has been preserved well over the years, making it a stunning location to stay in while you are visiting Northern Rajasthan. The property keeps its historical, royal charm with its marble interior, and traditional Indian accents, as well as beautiful large paintings in each of the guest rooms.
