What happens when you’re about to go off on your annual vacation and suddenly your boss asks you to look over some stuff while you’re on leave? When put in that situation, about 59% of millennials lie to their bosses about not having Wi-Fi.
According to the 2019 Vacation Confidence Index released by Allianz Global Assistance, millennials are most likely to use the excuse, with 59% saying they’d lie so that there are no real expectations for any work to get done while on holiday. The next generation most likely to lie are Gen Xers (49%), followed by boomers (32%).
But despite the teeny white lie, the survey polled more than 2,000 Americans, found that millennials are the generation that is “most likely to check email” while vacationing.
However, the study also found that two-thirds of those who aren’t confident they’ll take a vacation this year cite financial reasons. They either don’t have the money to spend (44%) or do not want to spend their money on a vacation (19%).
“Most working Americans feel pressured to spend their vacations attached to their work email, when they may just need a few days to unplug. Consequently, half of U.S. workers are willing to lie about lack of connectivity to set them free from work obligations,” said Daniel Durazo, director of marketing and communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA.
