Ian Schrager & Marriott International continue to impress style-hungry travellers, following openings in London, Miami Beach and New York. This time they’ve arrived in Barcelona, with the launch of their 100-room hotel in the Ciutat Vella district, close to the Santa Catalina market and within stumbling distance of the city’s top must-sees. The distinctive brand, which blends Schrager’s penchant for the hip with Marriott’s broad reach, is on something of a roll with a recent Sanya opening set to be followed this year by outposts in Bangkok, Abu Dhabi and Shanghai. 2. The Nobu Hotel — London
Chef Nobu Matsuhisa might be better known for his eponymous restaurants, but he also has a scattering of luxury hotels to his name, including the Las Vegas branch, which kicked things off back in 2013. With this new arrival in Shoreditch, Nobu’s accommodation is entering European territory for the first time. With two enduringly popular restaurants to his name in the capital already, the hotel will no doubt be given a warm welcome. The five-storey building sits on Willow Street, deep within the capital’s creative hub, and will feature 156 guest rooms, a ‘pocket park’ and of course, a Nobu restaurant and cocktail lounge.

3 W Shanghai The Bund — Shanghai
The W’s familiar branding is ever-present at this new location in Shanghai, where a soaring tower overlooking the Bund waterfront was scheduled to open in June. With this sky-high position, all 374 guestrooms are expected to enjoy excellent views, while extensive event space makes this a surefire hit for corporate travellers too. Regular W guests will feel right at home with the brand’s usual touches — from the Bliss amenities to the internationally coveted W bed. 4. Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club — Miami
The Surf Club has been a gathering place since the 1930s when American tycoon Harvey Firestone discovered the land ,and since then everyone from Sinatra to Churchill has gazed out over the Atlantic from this spot. Now the Four Seasons is bringing new life to the site, with its Richard Meier-designed hotel and ocean-front spa. The hotel will feature just 77 guestrooms, along with additional condominiums available to purchase. 5. Hotel de Crillon: A Rosewood Hotel — Paris
Paris’ beloved Hotel de Crillon, a masterpiece of 18th-century architecture much embraced by the city’s occupants, is undergoing a dramatic makeover. When she emerges this month, managed by the unstoppable Rosewood brand, this grand dame will grace the Place de la Concorde once more. Originally commissioned by King Louis XV, the all-important renovations are being overseen by a collection of remarkable talent, including artistic director Aline d’Amman and Paris-based decorators Chahan Minassian, Cyril Vergniol and Tristan Auer. The Rosewood has also opened a hotel on Phuket’s Emerald Isle this year, and will follow with more in Phnom Penh and Bangkok.

6. The Duxton Club — Singapore
Singapore’s latest opening will be straddle two separate buildings — The Duxton House and The Duxton Terrace — each within walking distance of the other in Tanjong Pagar. Duxton House, set to open first, will feature 50 guestrooms designed by interiors queen Anouska Hempel (who also has London’s recently opened Franklin to her name, along with old favourites such as Blakes and The Hempel), along with a destination restaurant and private cigar room. Duxton Terrace, designed by Jacques Garcia (famed for restoring both the Louvre and the Palace of Versailles), will feature 138 guestrooms and add a swimming pool and fitness centre to the hotel’s impressive facilities.

7. Palácio Tangará — Sao Paulo
Brazilian interior designers William Simonato and Patricia Anastassiadis have brought 141 immaculately designed guestrooms to Sao Paulo with the opening of the much-anticipated Palácio Tangará in May. The hotel has bagged a fabulous location in the city’s Burle Marx Park and features indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness centre, spa and private garden. Acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who heads up more than 30 kitchens worldwide (including 10 in New York City alone), will drive the hotel’s dining experiences, adding further appeal to this mighty new opening.

8. Wild Coast Tented Lodge — Sri Lanka
This luxurious wildlife camp will open in August on the edge of Sri Lanka’s epic Yala National Park, featuring 28 air-conditioned tents fitted out with all manner of luxuries, ensuring guests experience hotel-standard living on camp. Selected tents will also feature outdoor bathrooms, freestanding bathtubs and private plunge pools, along with decks from which to watch local wildlife gathering around the resort’s five watering holes. 9. Bulgari Hotel — Dubai
With some of the world’s fashion capitals, including London and Milan, ticked off its designer belt, the Bulgari hotel is now looking eastwards to Dubai for its next trick. Located on Jumeirah Bay Island, the property will be designed — as they all are — by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners, and will comprise 100 rooms surrounded by landscaped gardens and its very own marina with space for 50 yachts. The new development will sit with the brand’s palazzo style but will also take inspiration from the local culture, using natural materials and custom-designed furniture.

10. MADE — New York
Located in New York’s NoMad neighbourhood, this 108-room new hotel, a first from entrepreneur Sam Gelin (who also organises renowned pop-up craft events across the city) will be themed around the idea of community, featuring an all-day ‘kitchen table’ in the lobby serving freshly ground coffee (and cocktails in the evening), along with a rooftop bar, restaurant and coffee shop. LA-based interior design firm Studio MAI have put an emphasis on raw materials, so in the bedrooms guests can expect everything from concrete bathtubs to hand-carved furnishings.
