If Ryan Reynolds has a business card, we imagine that it would be a big one. Hollywood A-Lister, Deadpool, co-owner of Wrexham AFC, owner of Aviation Gin, Mint Mobile, husband of Blake Lively, and now, CIO (Chief Island Officer) of Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island.
In arguably his most important role, Canadian superstar has just being unveiled as the man who take on the mantle of the face of the UAE capital’s leading entertainment destination.
Reynolds follows in the footsteps of Kevin Hart and Jason Momoa – both having been previous Chief Island Officer. Reynolds has big shoes to fill, but if the hype over the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film is anything on which to base judgement, he’ll do just fine.
“With the appointment of Ryan Reynolds as our latest Chief Island Officer of Yas Island Abu Dhabi, we continue the tradition of excellence established by Kevin Hart and Jason Momoa,” said Liam Findlay, CEO of Miral Destinations. “Reynolds brings his own unique blend of charisma, energy, and enthusiasm to the role, promising to elevate the Yas Island experience to even greater heights. We’re thrilled to embark on this exhilarating journey with him, inviting fans worldwide to be part of the legacy.”
The hype surrounding Reynolds’s third outing as the ‘merc with the mouth’, Deadpool & Wolverine, which releases July 26, 2024, features Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine in a roll that Jackman had said, many a time, would be discontinued after 2017’s Logan. But unlike many modern actors who continue to reprise their superhero rolls only to be met with crickets, this is one of those rare occasions where yet another superhero sequel will be met with one reaction: hell yeah.
Yas Island continues to roll out the biggest names in modern day entertainment, as Dave Chappelle was recently added to Abu Dhabi comedy week, alongside Aziz Ansari, Bassem Yousseff, and more. And the UFC will make its eagerly awaited return to Fight Island for UFC 308 on October 26, 2024.
