Saudi Arabia will finally be joining the Miss Universe competition for the first time in history, as 27-year-old model, Rumy Alqahtani, will proudly be wielding the Saudi flag on the stage. Alqahtani, a veteran of beauty pageants and influencers with a million followers on Instagram, recently announced that she will be representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in one of the most prestigious beauty pageants in the world, erm, correction, universe.

In the post above, Alqahtani wrote, in Arabic, “I am honoured to participate in the Miss Universe 2024 competition. This is the debut of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the competition.”

This is a big moment for the KSA, but back in 1971, Georgina Rizk, represented Lebanon at the Miss Universe competition, making her the first Lebanese and West Asian woman to win that title.

The Miss Universe 2024, the 73rd of all time, will be held on Saturday, September 28 in Mexico, with Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua crowning her successor at the conclusion of the event.
