In a meeting of minds and cultures, Emirati product designer Omar Al Gurg has collaborated with Vacheron Constantin for a one-of-a-kind artwork named ‘Among The Pillars’. The piece – which is a testament to both Al Gurg’s design prowess and Vacheron Constantin’s centuries-old commitment to craftsmanship – is 4-meter tall installation within the historic Swiss watchmaker’s Dubai Mall store.

A former Esquire Middle East cover star, Omar Al Gurg is no stranger to the world of engaging design. Via his design studio, Modu Method, he is known for his pragmatic approach to design which champions accessible design, creating contemporary pieces that seamlessly echo Arab identity. Aligning himself with Vacheron Constantin, a watchmaker with a rich history dating back to 1755, is a reflection of this ethos.

‘Among The Pillars’ installation is inspired by the region’s rich landscape and Islamic architecture, and reflects a regional telling of the philosophy of the Swiss Maison.

It is crafted from locally sourced materials such as palm tree fronds and date-seed based solid surface while an engraved plate with the Vacheron Constantin signature logo adorns the top of the pillars, underscoring the seamless link between watchmaking excellence and local craftsmanship techniques.
