As the world becomes more connected by the use of social media and wireless devices, ironically people start to feel disconnected from the world. Modern day spiritual healer- Yura Icaro, specializes in blending art and spirituality, using music as a medium to enhance and express his spiritual journeys. Yura’s musical creations are influenced by his spiritual insights and how he uses sound as a tool for healing and transformation. Yura Icaro seamlessly blends his talents as a musician with his deep-rooted folk practices, examining the sensitive topic of cultural appropriation.

Yura Icaro has been exploring music for quite a while, but only recently he decided that it was time for a collaboration with someone who he shared many interests and outlooks on life with. The collaboration with Sara was a long-anticipated project. “The female role in the video was specifically scripted for her, as we were looking for a woman who could lead the narrative we envisioned effectively. Sara and I share common beliefs and ideas about promoting the spirit of our souls. Sara and her team were all so great to work with on this project. This was also Sara’s first experience as an actress in a music video.”

The concept behind the music video was inspired by Icaro’s desire to illustrate the profound connection between man and woman. Utilizing the “Yin and Yang” concept, the video aims to convey the idea of integrity and the pure spirit that exists when man and woman come together in harmony. One surprising detail for the audience – Icaro has personally handled the wardrobe and props for the entire video. “This hands-on approach really allowed for a more personalized touch in the production,” he says.

The location for the video was also chosen with the concept in mind. Dubai- known for its vibrant cultural scene and reputation as a hub for artistic collaboration, was the first choice. “The city’s creative environment fostered a collaborative spirit among our production team and Sara’s, allowing for an exchange of ideas and the incorporation of diverse perspectives into the video’s concept and execution,” said Icaro. Although, the shooting process wasn’t as seamless as the team hoped for, and the weather significantly delayed production times. The city was flooded during almost all days of shooting, which created significant transportation delays, and problems with electrical power.

But for Yura, producing music isn’t solely for the purpose of entertainment.

In 2019, he began his journey of self-discovery, in an effort to find his true calling. After arriving in the US, he immersed himself in the world of music and sound, gradually building his path. “Over the years, my understanding deepened, and now, I am committed to helping others find their sound and “key” in life. Through my songs, I aim to guide people towards harmony and their true passion, which might be lost within their souls. This music video serves as another conduit for this understanding and mission.” His journey into spiritualism began at the age of 33, during a period of personal struggle and disillusionment with the world. “Spiritualism provided me with solace and insight, leading me to share this knowledge with others. Transformation, to me, is a continuous process rather than a single turning point. It involves embracing new experiences and letting go of the old to make space for the new.”

Icaro believes spiritual healing represents a fundamental shift in perspective- a way of life that respects the balance of light and dark and deeply influences creative processes. It isn’t just a practice but a way of life that helps uncover a person’s true wants and needs. “Many people misunderstand spiritualism, not realizing it can lead one to become their best self. Often, people haven’t encountered the right healer to guide them.”

Because the topic is really gaining ground on social media, many are curious about the cultural aspects of modern day spiritualism. Icaro found a balance in regards to cultural appropriation in the new wave of modern folk healing and spiritualism. “I incorporate the cultural origins in my work by using musical instruments that I have crafted myself. These instruments are used in ceremonies, concerts, and recordings, honoring the tradition and my personal connection to it. My approach has been significantly influenced by my attention to detail and the need to unlearn many preconceived notions. Modern spiritualism faces challenges related to authenticity and cultural appropriation, but like all art forms, it evolves. I aim to respect this evolution while maintaining the integrity of the practice.” As for the ceremonies that Icaro holds- there are many factors which cannot be controlled during the ceremonies, but he always brings his best self, which makes each ceremony a unique experience.

As for future plans, there is an exciting new podcast coming out. Yura Icaro also plans to direct and shoot a movie, which will be either a documentary or a drama. “My focus is on taking small steps in the direction I want to move in, rather than setting rigid goals. This approach allows for organic growth and development in my creative journey.”
