Apple Music Tent Sessions is a new audio series that aims to highlight some of the best and brightest from Saudi Arabia’s music scene.

The aptly named ‘tent sessions’ (as they are filmed in a traditional tent) will showcase artists from The Kingdom. Part of a collaboration between Apple and Brij Ent – an agency created by Saudi producer and curator Saud Alturki – it should help regional artists find new fans in other countries.

So far artists include Majeed Alzayer (aka “Jeed”), Adbul Rahman Hajaj and Ziyad Al Raki.

The series will be recorded in ‘live format’ – think of MTV’s Unplugged series, but filmed in a tent.

The music will also come with Apple’s clever Spatial Audio technology, meaning if you’re listening along with a pair of Apple or Beats headphones, it will sound like the artist is playing tunes right in the room. There’s Dolby Atmos too, provided you have a pair of buds with either an H1 or W1 chip in them.

The musicians involved are evidently pretty chuffed, with Alzayer saying, Apple Music is the first platform to ever support my music career as I was coming up. I know that through initiatives such as Tent Sessions, I can expect even more variety from the platform with curations from our region, and spotlighted content for individuals to tell their story.”

Apple is increasingly moving to support local music in regions such as the Middle East. It previously opened up charts featuring top songs in over 100 cities around the world, including Dubai and Riyadh.
