She was a quintessential ‘rock chick’ growing up
“I was a rocker when I was in my teens. I had a lip pierced when I was 14, and had really long hair that I dyed black. I listened to a lot of punk and rock. I loved the band Incubus”
She read inappropriate books
“I was a bit of a weird kid, I’d read books that were way too advanced for my age. Kids books didn’t really interest me. That said, my first ever books were Grimm’s Fairy Tales. They’re messed up. Really weird stuff happens in them, but the moral is always there: ‘do good stuff and good stuff will happen to you’. I still enjoy them now.”
She is very into running
“My greatest passion is running. One of the most powerful feelings in the world is after a really, really long run.”
She is an on-off vegan
“I have been a vegetarian through most of my adult life and all the way through my teens. But I’m an on-off vegan. Once I fully understood where meat came from I found that concept quite hard to live with. If you don’t need meat to survive, I don’t see why you have to have it. I’ll definitely never eat fish or meat again.”
She loves Bjork
“I consider Bjork a hero. She’s such a prolific and respected artist. You can ask any female singer and they’ll say they love her. She’s always done exactly what she’s wanted to do. She’s actually got a really sweet voice, but the way she projects it and uses it is like an instrument. And her lyrics are really messed up but also really sweet. She like a little girl at times and then like a philosopher. Her music makes me feel like I’m not weird.”
