He was listened to more than 28 billion times over the last ten years

With the 2010s winding to a close, Spotify has announced that Drake is the most globally streamed artist of the decade. His music was streamed more than 28-million times.

Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, Ariana Grande and Eminem rounded out the top five most-streamed artists between 2010 and 2019.

Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ became the most-streamed track of the decade, with more than 2.3 billion listens.

Spotify said data from every one of its 248 million users around the world was taken into account.

Post Malone is this year’s most listened to artist, with more than 6.5 billion streams, followed by Billie Eilish (with 6 billion). Grande, Sheeran and Latin-trap star Bad Bunny rounded out the top five most-streamed of 2019.

Created in 2006, Spotify only had a paltry million subscribers by 2010. Fast forward a decade, however, and Spotify has changed the music game completely. Today, the platform’s almost quarter of a billion users – including paying and non-paying members – has largely come from its dominance in the industry.

Fellow streaming giant (of the video variety) YouTube has yet to publish its largest videos. However, its top-viewed video remains ‘Despacito’ by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee, with more than 6.5 billion video views.
