- The third film in the John Wick Saga – Parabellum – is out on May 16
- Keanu Reeves has said he will continue to play the character “as far as the audience wants to go”
- The John Wick franchise has been a runaway success grossing more than US$400,000 million worldwide
- News reveals one massive spoiler for the film (shh* John Wick obviously doesn’t die in this one)
After two ridiculously stylish films, John Wick 3 is almost here.
And while the film trailers lead us to believe that this will be Keanu Reeve’s exhilarating end playing the titular character, statements the actor keeps making point to the opposite being true.
Speaking to Collider, Reeves admitted that he would continue playing the character as long as he possible could, or at least until the fans got sick of him.
When asked how long he would like to remain in the role, Reeves responded, “as far as my legs can take me. As far as the audience wants to go”.
While critics point to the fact that Reeves is already 54 (and considering these films tend to be churned out once every few years) that does put a hard-ceiling on the number of John Wick outings there can be. It’s still nice to hear the actor is committed to the role.
The third iteration of the action franchise will see Reeves’ character John Wick running from swathes of assassins now out to collect a bounty on his head, after breaking that one unbreakable rule – you don’t partake in business inside the Continental Hotel (the film’s safe house hotel of sorts). Wick is now ‘excommunicado’ and cut-off from the rest of the criminal underworld’s resources, forced to turn tail and run.
Even without Keane Reeves in a starring role, it seems there’s still a lot more stories to tell based on the John Wick saga. The films are receiving their very own spin-off series, dubbed The Continental. That will focus on the hotel chain that is home to the world’s league of assassins, and is set to debut on the Starz Network early in 2020.
