The long wait for more from the legendary filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai is nearly here. The years-in-the-works series Blossoms Shanghai, the third part in his trilogy with In The Mood for Love and 2046, finally has a trailer.

The project, Wong’s first since The Grandmaster, is based on Jin Yucheng’s novel. The series stars Hu Ge, Ma Yili, Tang Yan, and Xin Zhilei, and while it will air as a series in China in 2023, it will apparently also get a movie version.

When will we be able to see it in English? That remains to be seen, but we will keep you posted as soon as we know.

In the mean time, get a load of these stunning visuals:

While the lack of English subtitles makes the trailer a bit hard to discern to non- Shanghainese speakers, the book follows three Shanghai residents from the early 1960s until the 1990s, from the end of the Cultural Revolution until a very different China emerges on the other side of the 1980s.

Blossoms would be the third part of In the Mood for Love and 2046,” Wong previously said.

“Jin Yucheng’s landmark novel Blossoms has been the perfect backdrop to visualize and share my love for my birth city,” says Wong.

“With the series, I would like to invite the audience to immerse in the intrigues of Shanghai and its inhabitants in the early 1990s, an exciting time that paved the way for the prosperity of modern Shanghai.”

The series was written by Shanghainese screenwriter Qin Wen with contributions from Academy Award-winning cinematographer Peter Pau.

If you’ve never seen a film from Wong Kar-Wai, please fix this immediately. Start with either In The Mood for Love, or Chungking Express. Trust us, you won’t regret it.
