Upon initially hearing that there’s a Winnie the Pooh horror film in development, some of us thought that it would never see the light of day but oh its real, and real scary.

Disney lost their exclusive rights to the character in January this year when A.A. Milne’s 1926 book Winnie-the-Pooh entered the public domain. Meaning that anyone can use the characters for free.

The film is a horror re-imagining of A.A. Milne’s 1926 book Winnie-the-Pooh and the first trailer dropped last night. Pooh and his friends have become terrifying monsters after being abandoned by Christopher Robin who returns to Hundred Acre Wood to show his future wife where he spent his childhood, only to find that he and his partner aren’t welcome there.

To say “this film ain’t no bedtime story” is perhaps the understatement of the year.

Directed and written by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the film stars Craig David Dowsett as the not so lovable bear, while Chris Cordell plays Piglet and Nikolai Leon is Christopher Robin.

Christopher notices a skull and grave inscribed with the words “Eeyore R.I.P” as he had been eaten at some point. Despite Christopher’s fiance telling him that they need to leave, he insists on finding out what happened to his beloved friends.

A group of female friends decide to stay at a house in the woods where they are ambushed by Pooh and Piglet. One of the girls is beheaded and the words “GET OUT’ likely written in in the girls blood can be seen on the window.

“We used to be friends, why are you doing this?” says a terrified Christopher to Pooh”.

Fans reacted to the trailer in the YouTube comments by stating:

“This looks completely ridiculous and I’m all for it!!” said a user.

“If Pooh doesn’t land a killing blow and then say “Oh bother” I will riot!!!!!” said another.

An official release date for the film hasn’t been announced yet.
