The movie takes place 15 years after the events of ‘Star Trek: Nemesis’

  • The highly-awaited follow-up to Star Trek: The Next Generation is almost here
  • A trailer showing the fate of Star Trek Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard has just been released
  • The new show named simply Picard will revolve around the Captain’s life post-Starfleet
  • Sir Patrick Steward will once again reprise his role

When we last see Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Nemesis, the famed captain has defeated Shinzon, and escaped with his life thanks to the sacrifice of Data.

From there, Captain Riker begins to negotiate peace with the Romulans, and a new era of the galaxy is set to begin.

In terms of the Star Trek timeline, this is the furthest the franchise has gone into the future (the fictional year 2387). But now, the captain will return in Star Trek: Picard, the newest entry in the famed sci-fi saga which takes place 15 years after the events of Nemesis and has Patrick Stewart reprising his famed role.

The first trailer for the upcoming CBS All Access series has dropped and it teases a not-so-happy ending for Picard. It shows a peaceful orchard on Earth, with a voiceover that hints about something horrible happening to Picard after the events of Nemesis that led the then-admiral to resign from Starfleet and go, I guess, help out with the family business?

Alex Kurtzman, executive producer of the new series, has described Star Trek: Picard as more of a character study rather than a traditional entry in the franchise.

“What happens when circumstances have conspired to not give him the happiest of endings? Hopefully, it’s a reinforcement of [Trek creator Gene] Roddenberry’s vision of optimism. He’s going to have to go through deep valleys to get back to the light,” Kurtzman told the LA Times.

I for one encourage Picard to stay out of all the drama and just enjoy his grapes
