History-making director Ryan Coolger returns to the big screen with the cinematic event of the year, Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan not once but twice. Set in 1932 Mississippi, Sinners follows twin brothers Elijah “Smoke” and Elias “Stack” Moore, World War I veterans who return home to establish a juke joint for the local community. Their venture takes a dark turn when they confront an Irish-immigrant vampire, Remmick, and his blood sucking minions, intertwining themes of racial tension, cultural identity, and the supernatural. Think Crossroads (the one with Ralph Macchio, not Britney Spears) meets From Dusk Till Dawn.

Music is the binding thread of Sinners. Composer Ludwig Göransson creates a haunting, textured score that pulls from deep Southern blues and raw folk traditions. It’s not just background—it’s alive in every scene, with blues legends and cast members themselves lending their voices to the soundscape. The result? A sonic world that deepens the film’s mood and lingers long after the credits roll.

But when your eyes are on the screen, the undeniable highlight is Michael B. Jordan squared, playing the coolest southern gangster put on film in a very long time: like John Dillinger and BB King fused into one Tommy gun-wielding, vampire slaying duo. This isn’t the first, second, or even the third time director Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have worked together, but rather the fourth outing, the first being Fruitvale Station (2013), Creed (2015), Black Panther (2018), and now Sinners, which currently holds a 98% approval rating on famed film critic website, Rotten Tomatoes.

The film had its red carpet premiere today, April 14, in London, where the entire cast and crew were greeted by howling fans in London, UK.

The vampire genre continues to be one of the most fascinating, yet one of the most misfired themes in film, and rarely does someone pull it off with such spectacular originality as Coolger has done with his latest hit. Vampires, much like ghosts and werewolves, are a mythical creation that have captivated audiences for centuries. Planting them in the middle of the Deep American South during the height of prohibition and racism makes for something worthy of digging your fangs into.

Sinners is now playing in theatres in the UAE. Get tickets here.
