The highly anticipated prequel series House of the Dragon has been well received by fans who’ve waited three long years for more stories from the realm of Westeros.
However one issue is the chosen theme song. While nostalgia can be a great thing, some fans felt that reusing the GoT theme song was extremely lazy.

Being that Game of Thrones ran for eight years with an iconic theme song everyone looked forward to hearing each episode, it’s understandable that the creators thought that fans would appreciate the throwback or throwforward since it’s bringing the theme from the future?
Anyways, without getting hung up on the correct terminology, the complaint is obviously not because the theme is bad. It’s that fans were expecting a refreshing new theme or at least a re-imagining to distinguish the series from GoT.
Attempting to understand the decision to re-use the GoT theme song, one Twitter user stated:
“I was scared they chickened out because GOT’s opening was so iconic they didn’t know how to compete with that, but I guess it’s just because they were setting the tone and the history and we’re getting it next week.”

Speaking to The Post, a show insider said that the decision to not have an opening theme for the prequel series was the show-runner’s creative choice as they wanted to dive right into the story. Going on to state that an opening theme for the first episode would have felt like an “indulgence”.
Ramin Djawadi, GoT’s composer returns to score the prequel series and told Entertainment Weekly:
“This is all about the Targaryens, so the big thing was to keep their sound and their themes.”
