Streaming service Disney+ has announced its first game show, and surprise, surprise, it’s based around the Star Wars universe.
Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge will be hosted by Ahmed Best, who is better known for having played the bumbling and almost universally-hated character of Jar Jar Binks. The live-action game show will appear on a weekly basis, similar to The Mandalorian.
Young contestants will take on challenge in three locations, including a forest planet, a star cruisers and on the inside of a Jedi temple. The competition will test “core Jedi principles of strength, knowledge, and bravery.”
According to Disney, the game show will also involve Star Wars elements such as lightsabers, hyperspace, the Force and the dark side.
Unlike The Phantom Menace, Best will not be donning the silly mask this time around. Instead, he will play the show’s host as a Jedi Master and serve as a mentor to contestants. Mary Holland, of Veep fame, will be playing a ‘Humanoid Droid Companion’.
Disney+ executive Dan Silver has described the show, which will launch next year, as being “a totally new format for the franchise”.
