The trailer for Jude Law’s The Young Pope turned much of the internet into a stammering, slobbering mess yesterday. The British star is seen wearing little more than a barely-there swimsuit in the steamy teaser.
Law plays a fictional first American pope in the hit series and officially unveiled a new trailer at the Venice film festival.
Speaking to reporters, Law admitted the swimwear was almost a napkin, instead.
“You’ll be surprised to know that those swimming trunks actually weren’t the smallest costume I got to wear,” Law said to reporters.
“There is actually a scene where I was wearing a napkin. It was truly the smallest costume I was ever given.”
The video dubbed ‘The New Pope’ played before a sneak previous of the follow-up series, and showed that Law’s pontiff had fallen into a coma. While out for the count, he is replaced by the far more reverent English pope, John Paul III – played by John Malkovich.
The trailer then sees Law (aka Pope Pius XIII) eventually wake up, leaving the world’s Catholics with two competition leaders and the drama of the third series.
Story aside, the internet seems more concentrated on Jude Law promenading on Venice’s beach in nothing but a small pair of white trunks.
