It’s really happening folks, Sony is taking back Spider-Man from Marvel. However, Marvel President Kevin Feige and Tom Holland don’t seem too cut up about it.
Unless you were Thanos snapped off the planet, you’ve probably heard the news of the bad blood between Sony Pictures and Disney. After a series of failed negotiations, the co-financing agreement over the Spider-Man name has crumbled, Sony has taken back Spidey for the foreseeable future and he will no longer play a part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
As you’d expect, the entire world is going crazy over this news, with people signing petitions to save Spider-Man’s spot in the MCU, along with hordes of enraged Twitter users sharing their anger.
However neither Tom Holland nor Kevin Feige are cut up about this news. In a brief video interview with EW, Holland, the star of Spider-Man finally opened up about how he feels about the news.
Holland explained that:
“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” Holland told EW. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”
It’s confirmed by the spoiler-blurter himself then, Holland will continue to hold the role of Spider-Man under the direction of Sony, though it’s unclear the direction the films will take considering the MCU is a major part of the current plots we’ve been led to follow in the films.
Feige, the President of Marvel Studios and also the producer of the two standalone Spidey films also opened up about the news:
“I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy,” Feige told EW. “We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”
