Thor is the best part of Avengers: Endgame.
The character has undergone a lot of changes over the past dozen films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Endgame saw the Norse God in a totally new light: alone, sad, and filled with rage.
Our sweet boy died on the inside when he failed to kill Thanos and save the universe, and Endgame gave him an emotional hero’s trajectory that involved anger, acceptance, and a lot of beer cans. Thor let himself go. And Marvel became better for it. But it looks like they left out one key scene.
While on The Tonight Show to promote his movie, Men in Black International, Chris Hemsworth debuted a clip from the set of Endgame that would have easily become one of the most memorable scenes from the film, had it been incorporated in the three hour epic.
It’s Hemsworth, in full “Fat Thor” getup, playing Johnny Cash’s cover of “Hurt,” the Nine Inch Nails song that has become something of a sadboy anthem.
Like the similarly remorseful Wolverine character in Logan, the trailer of which also utilized the iconic cover, Fat Thor feels perfectly represented by the somber vibe of the tune. It makes you wonder: What else did Marvel leave out of the film? Black Widow and Hot Hulk finally consummating their old flame? Natalie Portman fending off a feral space raccoon? Could we have seen Ant-Man try to expand his way into Thanos’s ass?
Come on, Marvel! Release the Fat Thor Cut!
