Sylvester Stallone gave Cannes crowds a treat this weekend, showing them a sneak preview of Rambo V: Last Blood.
The last in the Rambo saga will see the titular hero face off against drug cartels in the southern parts of the United States.
The showing was part of a masterclass by Stallone, that also included a re-mastered version of the original Rambo flick, First Blood.
Stallone told crowds the challenges he faced when he was just starting out, including his speech – which was affected when a nerve was severed in his face at birth. The actor said it impacted his confidence greatly, but that he had enough resilience to make it through.
“It was hard for me to speak. I had an accident when I was born so this side of my mouth was paralysed. So even as a boy when I talked I had this very deep ‘How ya doing?’ voice,” Stallone said.
“So (later) when I was trying to get jobs in commercials, the director would say, ‘What are you saying? What language is this?’
“I knew it was bad when Arnold Schwarzenegger said to me, ‘You have an accent.’
“Arnold and I should open up a school for speech lessons, it would be perfect. If we can make it, anyone can.”
Stallone was given a five-minute standing ovation at the end of his masterclass, with both critics and fans clapping and cheering while Stallone filmed them on his iPhone.
