Maleficent, the 2014 prequel to Sleeping Beauty is back. Disney just released the new official teaser for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and fans of the first seem largely pleased.
Though the teaser only teases one minute and twenty seconds of the movie, it was enough to gather that Angelina Jolie and her razor cheekbones are back, along with Elle Fanning, so we can expect some development in the relationship between those two characters.
The new film is a direct sequel to the first, taking place a few years after the events of original film, and now featuring Princess Aurora’s soon-to-be-mother-in-law, Queen Ingrith, who fans seem excited to see is played by the also razor-sharp cheekbones of Michelle Pfeiffer. Who knows, maybe in the film Pfeiffer and Jolie will duel it out with their cheekbones?
The film seems to focus more in on Maleficent and Aurora’s relationship and struggle to protect the Moors. According to Jolie, the film “will give audiences not just the characters they know but also a new, surprising world.”
Robert Stromberg, director of the first film will not be coming back to the second, instead we get Joachim Ronning, best known for directing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. With the first film having grossed a box office of three-quarters of a billion dollars, it’s safe to say the team are in clear waters as the gear up for the next instalment.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will be in theatres Oct. 18. 2019
