HBO have finally confirmed that ‘Moonlight’ star and Oscar winner Mahershala Ali has signed on to star in the latest season of their gritty anthology crime drama ‘True Detective’.
Joining the ranks of the show’s star-studded alumni (which includes Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Vince Vaughan, Rachel McAdams, and Colin Farrell), confirmation of Ali’s role has come following months of rumours and speculation. Despite already on board for the show’s third season, Mahershala appears to be a lone passenger on the good train True Detective as neither a script nor director have been decided upon by the HBO big wigs.
Although this may seem a little strange, we feel that the more time spent on deciding these factors the better, especially considering the show’s second season failed to really ignite audiences in spite of its impressive cast.
Regardless of who is placed in charge of the third season, the one thing we can almost guarantee is another cracking performance from Ali. Hell, even his Oscar acceptance speech was worthy of an Oscar.
