With Talladega Nights celebrating its 10 year anniversary this August, what better time could there to be announce that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly will be shake n’ baking together on our big screens once again?
The Step Brothers co-stars are renowned for being the bacon and eggs of the comedy world (both are enjoyable separately but it’s when they come together in beautiful harmony that the magic generally occurs), and the news that the two will be starring in ‘Holmes & Watson’ – an iteration of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic series that will presumably be a far less gritty take on the super sleuth’s adventures – has got us pretty excited.
Set to be directed by Etan Cohen, who previously worked with Ferrell ion 2015’s financially successful-yet-critically panned Get Hard, and produced by Sony Pictures, we can only hope that this will be a return to form for both Ferrell and Reilly, with the former’s recent oeuvre of safe comedies having been less than impressive. Starring Ferrell as Holmes and Reilly as his Watson, we’re keeping our hopes up at the moment, with the undeniable chemistry of the two lead actors hopefully being enough to revitalise both of their respective careers.
The only perceivable issue would be the sheer glutton of Sherlock Holmes related content out there. With Guy Ritchie set to make a sequel to 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and BBC’s Sherlock and CBS’s Elementary currently providing the small screen with their own smattering of Holmes-related content, we merely hope that Ferrell and Reilly don’t get lost in the shuffle of 221B Baker Street. However, judging by the box-office success that occurs almost every time these two are together, we can’t see this one flying under the radar of most movie-goers. The formula of Ferrell + Reilly = Funny is elementary, really.
