Disney seems to be enjoying incredible run of success, and it seems its success is only getting started. The new trailer for the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast managed to break the record for the most views in its first 24 hours of release – a title previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, another Disney film.
That is in itself pretty remarkable, and even more so considering that the trailer shows so very little. Apparently, a short shot of Emma Watson staring intimately at a rose is enough to break the Internet.
In terms of numbers, the new teaser smashed previous records raking in 91.8million views on social media in its first 24 hours. Trailing behind are Star Wars: The Force Awakens with 88million views, and Captain America: Civil War (another Disney-owned property) with 61million. If the numbers say anything, Disney’s risky move of creating live-action revamps of their animated classics is going to pay off… and in a big way.
The trailer debuted on ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday morning before appearing on the Internet. The trailer doesn’t really show anything more than a lone figure, Emma Watson, searching for someone and finding a rose. In retrospect, this could be the most effective trailer ever.
To create this much excitement and show almost nothing of the film, is pretty incredible. Now we wait and see if it’ll be followed with a ridiculous number of overexposing full trailers or if they continue to build on this successful suspense.
