You cannot buy experience. It is something that has to be lived. Something that matures and evolves over time with never-ending lessons learnt through trial, tribulation and triumph. But as anyone with experience knows, it is at
its most impactful when shared with others—and that is where the art of storytelling comes in.
For a staggering eight decades, the pioneering pop artist Sir Peter Blake has been crafting stories through his art works. Renowned for his highly distinctive collages—as well as creating the artwork for The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover, and working with The Who, Oasis, Eric Clapton, Lewis Carroll and many (many) more—his iconic aesthetic and unique take on visual storytelling has inspired generations of artists across fashion, music, and even entire art movements.
The latest edition to the celebrated artist’s sizable legacy comes in the form of his latest collaboration with The Macallan, cementing a long-standing relationship between the two, based on a mutual respect for craftsmanship and a strong desire to deliver truly creative and visionary work.

The two first collaborated in 1986 to create a bespoke label for The Macallan 1926, which took inspiration from the events of the era. Later, in 2012, The Macallan and Sir Peter Blake reunited to create a unique, limited edition piece in celebration of the artist’s 80th birthday. Today, as part of The Macallan’s The Anecdotes of Ages Collection, an 18-month-long project concludes with the creation of 13 one-of-a-kind bottles, each with a handcrafted label by Blake featuring his signature collages that draw inspiration from the innumerable stories that surround The Macallan’s history, and positive impact on the local community in its home of Speyside, Scotland. From the workhorses that used to plough the surrounding fields, to the mausoleum that stands on the grounds of the Easter Elchies Estate, each label tells a seminal tale that, viewed together, form the legacy of The Macallan.

Understanding the core principle that the past informs a responsibility for the future, The Anecdotes of Ages Collection chronicles the history of The Macallan thanks to Sir Peter Blake creating a timeline championing the workers who devoted their—in many cases—lifelong efforts to The Macallan’s process. For generations the Easter Elchies Estate has served as the heart of its people’s lives as well as a social and family hub—from its earlier support for war widows, to its growth into the globally celebrated brand it is today.
“Each collage in the Anecdotes of Ages Collection is inspired by The Macallan’s history and heritage, one that respects time and craft, two essential components of my own creative process. I meticulously worked on each collage, pulling from The Macallan Easter Elchies Estate’s rich history to complete the collection,” said Blake of the collaboration, and as any craftsman knows, the most impactful stories are always the ones that are developed over time.
