The King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture has announced a new scheme to help with Saudi-based artists who’s work and livelihoods have been affected by the recent pandemic.
Known as ‘Ithra’, the Centre today pledged to offer mentorship and training for ten artists, one of which will have their artwork featured in a contemporary art exhibition at Ithra, alongside established local and international artists.
“The world is going through a challenging time with the current crisis, and just like everyone else, artists and the cultural industry have been impacted by this pandemic,” said the head of Ithra’s Museums, Laila Al Faddagh. “This is why we have decided to move forward with the open call to show our support to artists but to also create opportunities for new talent.”
Once the shortlist of ten people has been selected, they will be mentored by Saudi artist, Aziz Jamal (whose prize-winning work below was showcased at the museum’s Zamakan Exhibition last year.
The scheme is open exclusively for Saudi nationals or residents of minimum 10 years, and for people over age of 18. Applications are to be done online for free. The deadline for all submissions is 31 August 2020.
